The Hilariously Honest Reality of Getting Older

A relatable tale of brain fog, distractions, and the eternal mystery of where we were going in the first place.

I started the day with purpose. You know, that fake kind of confidence where you walk into a room like you're about to change the world—or at least finally tackle your to-do list. I came, I saw… and then I completely forgot what I was doing. Like, poof. Gone.

Naturally, I tried the classic move: retrace my steps. Surely if I walked back into the kitchen, my brain would give me a hint. Instead, I spotted a half-finished cup of coffee, remembered I never responded to that one text, opened my phone, and next thing you know, I’m ten TikToks deep into “how to grow tomatoes in a bathtub.”

Suddenly, it hits me—not the purpose of life or the thing I forgot—but the urgent need to pee. So now I’m standing in the hallway, confused, holding my phone, no closer to my original goal, and somehow more tired than when I started.

If this sounds familiar, congratulations: you're human. Whether it's age, mental overload, or just the sheer number of tabs open in our brains at any given moment, distraction is part of the deal. And honestly? Sometimes it’s funny, if you let it be.

We're all juggling so much that it's easy to forget the point of walking into a room… or life’s bigger picture. But maybe the point isn’t to always be laser-focused. Maybe it’s to laugh at ourselves along the way and remember we’re doing the best we can.

So what if we forget the little things now and then? What matters is that we keep showing up—messy, distracted, slightly confused, but still going. And maybe also drinking less coffee after 3 p.m.

Next time you find yourself forgetting why you walked into a room, take a deep breath, laugh it off, and give yourself some grace. And hey—if this story made you feel seen, go ahead and share it with a fellow forgetful friend. Because we’re all in this beautiful, distracted mess together. 💬☕
